What:  North Dakota CIO Shawn Riley will hold a media availability during a two-day hacking demonstration at the Capitol.

Gov. Doug Burgum today announced the state’s second year participating in an innovative, online cybersecurity competition and encouraged high school students to explore their aptitude for cybersecurity and computer science by registering.

North Dakota Chief Information Officer Shawn Riley today announced Kevin Ford as chief information security officer (CISO). Ford, a native of Calvert County Maryland, brings more than a decade of experience overseeing information security and cyber-risk management practices for private and public sector clients, including the federal government and Fortune 100 companies.

Gov. Doug Burgum today unveiled two reinvention success stories that highlight the administration’s shared values of Working as One and Citizen Focused: the continued expansion of a standardized state website platform and the planned deployment of a statewide photo and video digital asset management system.

Shane Hitch, a sophomore at Valley City State University majoring in software engineering, has been awarded a $22,000 scholarship to the Applied Cybersecurity certificate program operated by SANS Technology Institute. 

The K-20W Initiative, a statewide, comprehensive approach to cybersecurity education and workforce training, has been named a CSO50 Award winner. Code named “K-20W” to reflect every student from kindergarten through PhD and workforce, the K-20W coalition is comprised of more than 40 public and private sector participants who share a goal of  “Every Student. Every School. Cyber Educated.“ The Initiative was also the recipient of a Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service and was a Center for Digital Government Government Experience Award Finalist.

This week, Code.org, the Computer Science Teachers Association, and the Expanding Computing Education Pathways Alliance, released the 2019 State of Computer Science Education report. 

North Dakota Information Technology’s Chief Technology Officer Duane Schell has been selected as the Secretary/Treasurer on the 2020 Executive Board of the National Association of State Technology Directors (NASTD).

BISMARCK, N.D. (June 10, 2019) – North Dakota Chief Information Officer Shawn Riley will give the keynote address at the Western Region Seminar for the National Association of State Technology Directors (NASTD) in Grand Forks on Tuesday, June 11.

Gov. Doug Burgum on Thursday signed Senate Bill 2110, a milestone that makes North Dakota the first state to authorize a central, shared service approach to cybersecurity strategy across all aspects of state government including state, local, legislative, judicial, K-12 education and higher education.
