What:  North Dakota CIO Shawn Riley will hold a media availability during a two-day hacking demonstration at the Capitol. State Information Technology executives and security experts, along with partners from Palo Alto Networks, will provide real-world demonstrations of methods used by hackers to attack devices and steal information. Information on what North Dakota is doing to protect and defend the state’s systems and our citizens’ data will also be presented, along with tips that citizens can use to protect themselves at home, work or school.

Who:  Chief Information Officer Shawn Riley, Chief Information Security Officer Sean Wiese, Chief Technology Officer Duane Schell, cybersecurity experts Tony Aukland, Lucas Pippenger and Ryan Kramer.

When:  The hacking demonstration will be a drop-in opportunity held over two days: Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The media availability will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. The event is open to the public.

Where:  ITD conference room in the Judicial Wing outside of the Capitol Cafe.

Cybersecurity is a priority for the state and this demonstration will offer members of the Legislature as well as interested citizens the opportunity to learn more about our “Whole-of-Government” approach to protecting our systems and citizens’ data.
